Director’s Memo

RHenderson

As is the case with many individuals and their families, facing a decision about proper diagnosis and treatment of an unexpected illness or injury can be quite challenging as well as “nerve-wracking” … to say the least. In this issue we chronicle the journey of a patient who recognized the importance of “doing your homework” in order to seek the best care possible. We also put the spotlight on a few physicians that are integral to our Transfusion-free Surgery Program. In addition, we highlight the safety of anemia (lack of red blood cells) in comparison with traditional transfusion practice and give you a behind the scenes look at the work being performed by the Transfusion-free Surgery (TFS) Program staff.
